Mount Washington Baptist supports a wide scope of missions and missionary projects - including local, regional and international projects.

Importantly, we reach out to the community with our daycare, latch care, and preschool programs.

We provide tender loving care for infants of six weeks to age five (up to age 12 in our summer care program.) We provide a Christian curriculum, dedicated teachers and a clean, safe facility. The center also provides before-school/after-school care to serve the Mt. Washington/Anderson Township area.

LOCAL MINISTRIES

CAMPUS MINISTRIES @ UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI (formerly Baptist Student Fellowship) – Rev. David Palmer of Kenwood Baptist Church and Dr. Rev. Robert Hornyak serve these students, who have regular programs.  In cooperation with the Presbyterian church, a building in Stratford Heights complex houses 30 Christian students - including some American Baptist students.

CITY CURE  – In 2001, City Gospel and City Cure merged into one organization, located in Over-The-Rhine.

They work to meet the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of people who have lost hope and cannot help themselves, working with the urban community to empower the poor to move from poverty to productivity.

City Cure
City Cure has programs for urban youth; aimed at helping them develop useful skills & providing them a safe place for youth activities, and are focused on working with local churches to bring people to Jesus Christ.

FERNSIDE – This non-profit organization offers support and advocacy to grieving families who have lost a loved one.  Established in 1986 , it is the second oldest children’s grief center, offering support to children ages 3-18 along with their parents & guardians.

MATTHEW 25 MINISTRIES – a non-profit organization founded by Rev. Wendell Mettey, former pastor of Walnut Hills Baptist Church & Montgomery Community Church. The mission of Matthew 25 Ministries is to fulfill Matthew 25:34-40 by providing nutritional food to the hungry, clean water to the thirsty, clothing to the naked, affordable shelter to the homeless, medical care to the ill, and humanitarian supplies to prisoners.

Matthew 25 solicits obsolete, slightly distressed, or overstock inventory from corporations, hospitals, and individuals.  Over 20 local organizations partnered with Matthew 25 in 2008.

Matthew25
These donated goods are sorted with the help of volunteers, processed at the Center for Humanitarian Relief on Kenwood Road, then shipped in 40 ft. sea going containers & by semi-trailers to the poor both in the United States and around the world.  In 2008, they shipped a total of 13,521 pallets of supplies totaling 8,728,003 lbs. worth $7,019,453!!  Those figures, all going to programs, represent 99.4% of M25M’s total cash and in-kind donations.

SEM FOOD PANTRY – Along with 16 other churches in this area, Mt. Washington Baptist supports this ministry that began in 1967 to provide food for the needy. SEM is an ALL Volunteer ministry - no paid employees.

96% of their income is spent on clients.  Last year, SEM served 10,000 people.  90% of this help is food, including diapers, 10% is cash (cash is very limited).

Volunteers pick up donations of food and supplies from local stores and businesses. Area church food drives donate food, and some is purchased from the Free Store Food Bank @ 10 cents a pound.  Hours of operation are 9:30 to 2:00 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.

Campers not only make new friends, but have developed life-long friendships. Kids of all ages return year after to year. Many continue to be a part of Kirkwood in their adult years through camp counseling, volunteer work, and by introducing their children to Kirkwood.

Dwight & Kari Davidson & family serve as AB missionaries in Yokohama, Japan.  Dwight is the Chaplain at Kanto Gakuin University and teaches English (Japan’s 2nd language) The University was originally founded by American Baptist missionaries, providing an education for kindergarten through college age students.  While it has maintained its missionary presence, most of the professors are not Christians.

Dwight also leads a fellowship group outside of the university. The Davidson’s partner with and encourage pastors who are part of  the Japan Baptist Union.  Most churches have limited space and no on-going outreach programs.  It has taken a while to help churches build a vision for student ministry.

Japan is a very wealthy, materialistic country, full of people who do not feel the need for a Savior.  The Japanese people have strong values & traditions that are not compatible with Christianity, which makes it very difficult to witness & win souls for Christ.

Jim & Debbie Kelsey & family – Their ministry in Noventa Padovana, Italy includes: Training Immigrant Pastors, teaching Bible and Church Leadership courses, preaching in Italian and Immigrant churches, encouraging churches to fight human trafficking & prostitution and counseling victims of prostitution.

Both Jim and Debbie are ordained American Baptist ministers, so both are often called “the Man of God”. That designation is the people’s way of saying they feel blessed & privileged to have Jim & Debbie in Italy to minister to them. The Italian Baptist Union has recently approved a certificate-level training program.

We are also partners with Jared, (formerly the Youth Pastor of Karl Road Baptist Church in Columbus)  who along with his wife Chyloe and their two sons have gone to Beijing, China under an organization called “Our Living Hope” to serve as directors of a Chinese orphanage.

They are currently learning the Chinese language.  (6500 characters!  All with different meanings!).

The family was able to visit the orphanage where they will work (Fangshan), meet the children & staff, see their living quarters, and share lunch with them.  Jared is very athletic and indicates that sports will be a big part of his ministry.
